WHY IT'S A PICK
Look it, I dunno how you feel about writer/director Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, Squid and the Whale), but he just did a very quiet little movie for Netflix (now streaming) called The Meyerowitz Stories. I was skeptical when I saw the star-power in this movie, but Baumbach captures Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman, and journey-woman actress Elizabeth Marvel at the absolute height of their powers. The good lord knows we’ve had enough of dysfunctional family movies, but this one reaches a pitch of hysteria and misery that is as hilarious as it is troubling.

The Meyerowitz Stories depicts the unfortunate and tragic results of playing favorites with your children. Baumbach is a master of claustrophobic storytelling, and watching Adam Sandler lose his mind looking for parking whilst ostensibly parenting his daughter and only friend in the world (newcomer Grace Van Patten) is sheer nerve-racking delight. Can’t wait for Westworld’s return? This movie is made for Sunday night.

ABOUT JEFFREY
When Jeffrey started his weekly stand up show, LAp DAnce SAloon, he only knew two other comics. So he had them on every week. They performed at Fresh Salt (at the South Street Seaport) for salty regulars and talkative german tourists to little or no success. Holocaust jokes abounded.

Jeffrey still does LAp DAnce SAloon, (on Time Out NY’s list of Best Free Comedy Nights), now a standing-room-only weekly he co-produces with pal Jill Weiner 9pm Mondays at 2A in the east village. Over 120 shows and counting, audiences have enjoyed the likes of Todd Barry, Josh Gondelman, Liz Barrett, Neko White, and Matteo Lane. Jeffrey stars in the upcoming short “Here Lies A Drunken Asshole” coming to a film festival near you. He lives in Manhattan with his wife and two cats, Mr Fluffy and Mr Leggs.

Select Credits: New York Comedy Club, The Village Lantern, The Stand, Greenwich Comedy Club, and on red hot New York shows Comedy Electric, Panic Attack, The Kevin Sean Show, and Lonebird, among others.

Upcoming SHOWS
April 12th Goodness Greatness 2A, NYC
April 20th 7pm Sinkland Farms Brewery, Christiansburg, VA
May 9-13th Laughing Devil Festival, NYC

WHY IT'S A PICK
First and foremost, I absolutely adore Maria Bamford.  She has continually found new ways to package and promote her unique brand of comedy - from her special which was filmed in her living room (performing for only her parents), to her Ask My Mom webseries (where she plays herself and her mother), to this hysterically funny, different, sharply written, irreverent series based on her life.  Completely binge-worthy, unless you want to pace yourself until season 2 comes out later in 2017.

ABOUT ASHLEE
Ashlee is a Texan living in NYC by way of Los Angeles. Her first time doing stand up (well, in front of an audience) was on national television - which is a great place to start when you have no idea what you're doing. After studying, writing, and performing in LA for a couple of years, Ashlee met a boy in a bar in Vegas, who very conveniently lived in NYC. After many a cocktail, exorbitant cell phone bill (remember paying for minutes!?!), and a whirlwind cross-country courtship - the boy is now the husband, and a great source for material (very NICE, LOVING material). Ashlee has taken the stage in many a fine basement, bar, lounge, restaurant, club, rooftop, warehouse, converted apartment... well, you get it.

She is the Founder / Producer of MicShopNYC - a series of mics, shows, and resources for comics, and the Editor of This Week in Comedy. She has featured in the 5th Annual Chicago Womens Funny Festival, the Big Little Comedy Festival in Cleveland, and headlined the opening night of the Dallas Comedy Festival.

She is currently following 97 dogs, 5 cats, 4 pigs, a raccoon, a hedgehog, and 2 foxes on Instagram.

ABOUT DANA

Dana Friedman is, in all likelihood, New York’s first Orthodox Jewish, transsexual comic. Her performances address a wide variety of topics, including many outside the very unusual norms of standup comedy.

She has appeared with or opened for Janeane Garofalo, Lizz Winstead, Yanis Pappas, and other major headliners at clubs and theaters all over the New York tri-state area, and occasionally beyond, when her parole officer is on vacation.

She hopes to one day headline the not-yet-invented Transapalooza Comedy Festival.

WHY IT'S A PICK:
I think Tim Dillon Is Going To Hell is the most entertaining comedy podcast I've listened to in a long time. Episodes #8 and #10 especially. Very serious topics and guests that get interviewed with respect while Tim still interjects with his classic takes.
